10 AI Prompts to Maximize Your Points & Miles

You already earn points. You are probably leaving some on the table, not because you are doing it wrong, but because keeping track of all of it is exhausting.

So let the AI do the tracking. Paste a prompt, fill in a blank or two, and get a clear answer. No spreadsheets. No second job.

How to use these

  1. Open a free AI chat like Claude or ChatGPT.
  2. Tap Copy prompt on any card below and paste it in.
  3. Fill in the pink blanks with your own details. If you are not sure, the notes tell you what goes there.
  4. Read the answer. Ask follow-up questions in plain language. That is allowed.
Credit Cards The points you are earning on everyday spending

Prompt 01

See what your current cards actually earn

When to use

You have one or two cards and you are not sure if you are earning points in the right places.

Fill in

Your card names. That is it.

I have these credit cards: [list your cards]. In plain language, tell me which card I should use for groceries, gas, dining, travel, and everything else, so I earn the most points. Keep it to a simple list I can screenshot. Do not tell me to open new cards.

Prompt 02

Find the credits you already paid for

When to use

Once a year, or any time you are not sure what perks come with your annual fee.

Fill in

Your travel card name.

I have the [card name]. List every credit, benefit, and free-night or travel perk that comes with it, and tell me which ones reset each year so I do not lose them. Then give me a short checklist of the ones I should use before they expire.
Hotels Making a hotel stay pay you back

Prompt 03

Decide: points or cash for this stay

When to use

You are about to book a hotel and you have points sitting in that program.

Fill in

The hotel, your dates, the cash price, and how many points you have.

I want to book [hotel name or brand] for [your dates]. The cash price is about [$ amount] and I have [number] points in that program. Should I pay cash or use points? Explain it simply, and tell me if there is a "fourth or fifth night free" benefit I should know about for a longer stay.
Airlines Miles, without the frequent-flyer headache

Prompt 04

Turn your miles into a real flight

When to use

You have miles in an airline account and a trip in mind, but no idea if they are enough.

Fill in

Where you are flying from and to, and roughly how many miles you have.

I have about [number] miles with [airline]. I want to fly from [home airport] to [destination]. Explain, like I am new to this, whether my miles could realistically cover that flight, what to search for, and what usually makes an award flight cost fewer miles. Do not use jargon without explaining it.
Shopping Portals Extra points on things you were buying anyway

Prompt 05

Earn points on shopping you already do

When to use

Before any online purchase over a little while, especially bigger ones.

Fill in

The store, and which rewards program you collect.

Explain what a shopping portal is, like I have never used one. I collect [your rewards program, e.g. Chase, Amex, a specific airline] and I am about to shop at [store]. Walk me through, step by step, how to earn extra points through a portal before I check out, and what to watch for so the points actually post.
Big Picture Pulling it all together without the overwhelm

Prompt 06

Take inventory of everything you have

When to use

First. Before anything else. This is the "what do I even have" prompt.

Fill in

A rough dump of your cards and any points or miles you can find.

Help me take inventory of my travel rewards. Here is what I have: [list your cards, and any hotel points, airline miles, or credit card points you know of]. Organize it into a simple, calm summary: what I have, roughly what it is good for, and the two or three things I should pay attention to first. No pressure to do everything at once.

Prompt 07

Plan points around a trip you actually want

When to use

You have a specific trip in mind and want your points to help pay for it.

Fill in

The trip, and what points and miles you have.

I am planning a trip to [destination] around [when] for [number of people]. Here are the points and miles I have: [list them]. Suggest a simple plan for using them on flights or hotels for this trip. If it makes more sense to save some for later, tell me that too. Keep it to a short, doable plan.

Prompt 08

Check your work travel for hidden points

When to use

If you travel for work, even a couple of times a year.

Fill in

How you usually book and pay for work trips.

I travel for work sometimes. My company usually books it like this: [how you book and pay, e.g. corporate travel site, company card]. Explain how I can still earn hotel points and airline miles on those trips using my own loyalty numbers, and what I should double-check in my company's policy first so I stay within the rules.

Prompt 09

Protect points before they expire

When to use

A couple of times a year, as a quick safety check.

Fill in

The programs where you have points or miles.

I have points or miles with these programs: [list them]. For each one, tell me in plain terms whether the points can expire, what keeps them active, and any free-night certificates I should watch. Then give me a short calendar reminder I can set so nothing quietly disappears.

Prompt 10

Ask "is this actually worth it" before you chase

When to use

Any time a promotion, offer, or "great deal" is tempting you to do more.

Fill in

The thing you are considering.

I am considering [the offer, promotion, or new card you are eyeing] to earn more points. Be honest with me: is this worth the effort for someone who wants to keep things simple, or is it more work than it is worth? Weigh the real benefit against the hassle, and give me a clear "do it" or "skip it."

One more thing

You do not have to run all ten today. Start with Prompt 06, see what you already have, and let that be enough for one sitting. The goal was never to collect the most points. The goal was the trip.

When you are ready to turn any of this into an actual trip that fits the way you travel, that is what I am here for. You can start with a free chat, and if you want me to build the whole thing for you, that is an option too.

Be well,
Julissa
